The blue checkers have been used by the homeless for decades.
Now, they’re going to become the new holiday rental in Dublin.
The rental market is booming and demand is outstripping supply.
We’re hearing that there are over 1,000 vans available for rent in Dublin alone, with over 600 on the market in the last month.
The vans are all hand-built from reclaimed wood, and cost up to €50,000 each.
The city’s transport department is also keen to encourage the vans to be used by local communities, especially during the winter months.
The number of homeless people living in vans has been steadily growing for years.
According to the Dublin Homeless Executive, the number of vans in Dublin has increased by 40% since 2010.
The first vans were introduced in 2001 and were only used by a small number of people in Dublin, the agency says.
The agency says there are now over 2,000 homeless people in vans in the city.
But they have a long way to go to reach a million.
